OUR OCEAN

Today, we still have the ocean to enjoy, but we need to take care of her. For decades, she has provided us with the highest quality in delectables and the best in foods. For many, because of money, we have lost sight of her future, thinking only of ourselves and our needs.

Local fishermen throughout the world in their native lands have fished in her ocean from Asia to America, off the shores of the Polynesian islands & in Mexico. Some go fishing to feed their families, some for the sport, others do it for a living. Most have learned to respect, nurture and care for her.

The fisherman know that when the moon is full, it is not a good time to go fishing at night. Fish are smart. They can see the nets & fishing pole line and will not swim near it. Fishermen are also familiar with the tide. When the tide is low, they do not lay their nets in the ocean, for it will get tangled in the rocks. Instead, it is a good time to go crabbing and pick other shellfish. A fisherman never goes fishing when the water is rough. Instead, he goes surfing.

The fisherman has a special love for the ocean and he respects her. He looks forward to summer or the weekends when he can take his family to the beach. While the children are swimming and the wives are sunbathing and preparing food, the fisherman will go diving with his buddies, spear fish and come back with his catch, for everyone to enjoy. We soon may have to call this, the good old days.

We must Stop the industrial dumping of waste into our waters. What is industrial waste? Sewage and oil spills, sewage & industrial waste from the cruise ships, medical waste, etc. We need to find other avenues to dispense it. We can all team up together and protest to the stopping of these industrial waste. But what good is it if there is no alternative. We need to help each other find alternatives. The alternatives may require more work, but she is worth it. Our ocean is worth everything.
